Liao Liao started with a theatrical artist's belief in Mr. Tadashi Suzuki's theory:
Culture is the body.
And thus, how each object interacts with our body defines how we live our culture.
No matter how impossible it seems, clay is still a limited resource on earth. Once fired, clay cannot be recycled for thousands of years. Therefore. turning this material into objects carrying memory, meaning, and usage of daily life is my best way to honor the planet we all share.
Each piece bears its unique marks of craftsmanship, and is created with dedication and intention. I hope you find joy when using them, for it is the only way to fulfill their purposes.

Shuwen Cao is a Shanghainese multi-medium artist based in Los Angeles and Boston. Her story with tea can be traced back to the bamboo forrest in YiXing, the origin province of tea and the famous Zisha (purple clay) teapots. She takes inspirations from voyages, kenetisphere as well as memories, and attempts to transform the space, the body, and the in-betweens with objects of creation.
